CAADA is a charity established to encourage the use of independent advocacy as a way to increase the safety of survivors.
We are working to create a consistent, professional and effective response for all survivors of domestic violence and in particular those at high risk. We do this through delivering services directly to advocacy projects, their local multi-agency partners and also through our work with funders, policy advisers and government.
We offer a professional and accredited training programme for IDVAs or advocates that runs throughout the country. For graduates of this course we offer continuing professional development training days. We are piloting the process of national service standards, these have been developed following our successful project support visits to 21 IDVA projects around the UK. As part of the government’s initiative in designating new specialist domestic violence court areas, we are running training on MARACs (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference).
Our ever-expanding website includes resources such as research findings, protocols and risk assessment forms.
CAADA has been working with ACPO to develop a single risk indicator checklist for use by IDVAs, multi agency partners and police in relation to MARAC referrals. This aims to incorporate risks linked to extended family violence including honour based violence, and stalking. We are very grateful to Advance (Brent), Blackburn with Darwen Women’s Aid and East Berkshire Women’s Aid for agreeing to pilot the draft checklist for the months of June and July. We will incorporate the feedback from practitioners and their partner agencies and publish the amended checklist in September. |
