One day training course - an introduction to domestic abuse risk identification

This one day course will help build your skills, knowledge and confidence in identifying and working with victims of domestic abuse, as well as supporting your work in relation to Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC). With the rapid roll out of MARACs across England, Wales and Northern Ireland these are critical competencies for professionals working in this field.

Who should attend? This multi-agency training day is for all frontline professionals who come into contact with victims of domestic abuse, and who do not feel confident in identifying the level of risk faced by these victims. If you work in children/education services, housing, health services, adult protection, alcohol or drug services or similar organisation, this training will be of great benefit to your work. All practitioners are welcome, but the course is not aimed at those working for a specialist domestic abuse service such as an IDVA or refuge worker.

What are the aims of the training? The aim of the day is to provide you with a basic understanding of domestic abuse and risk identification, and to increase your skills and confidence when working with victims. This will enable you to offer safe and appropriate responses to the risks faced by domestic abuse victims, whilst at the same time linking in effectively with other services in your area.

What will be covered?

• The skills needed to encourage victims to disclose domestic abuse.
• The skills to use and complete the CAADA-Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Honour Based Violence (DASH) Risk Identification Checklist.
• The barriers faced by professionals when working with victims of domestic abuse, and the skills needed to overcome these challenges.
• The effectiveness of a multi-agency response to high risk victims of domestic abuse, and how to make appropriate referrals to MARAC.

When? Please contact CAADA on the email address below for the latest dates. The day will run from 9.30am to 4pm and a light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Places will be strictly limited to 24 delegates per day.

How much? The cost for training is £150 per statutory delegate and £100 per charity delegate.
